Both are demanding programmes aimed at people already working, and both are strongly received by private sector employers. Symbiosis costs substantially more and holds the better accreditation; IMT reports the higher placement bands, for reasons worth understanding before you read anything into them.
This is the closest-matched pair among the newer entries in this catalogue. Both institutions are UGC-DEB entitled and AICTE approved, both leave you eligible for doctoral study, both are recorded as very difficult, and both carry private sector recognition rated excellent. Neither is the obvious safe choice over the other.
Where they separate is price, credential and emphasis. Symbiosis awards an MBA degree at the highest entry price in this catalogue, under a brand Indian recruiters have known for decades. IMT awards an executive post graduate diploma at a fraction of that, from a long-established business school, to a cohort that mostly arrives already managing.
Every line above is computed from the fee, accreditation and placement figures in the table below — we don't rank universities on anything we can't show you.

A dash means the university has not published that detail.

Our data records higher placement bands against IMT than against Symbiosis, at both the average and the ceiling. Given that Symbiosis costs several times more and holds the better accreditation, that looks like a decisive argument. It is not, and the reason matters.
IMT prefers applicants who already hold management roles, and our record notes an alumni base concentrated in fast-moving consumer goods and banking. A programme selecting for practising managers reports practising managers' salaries. Symbiosis admits more broadly. The gap describes the two intakes more than it describes the two programmes.
Against Symbiosis our data records career progression as exceptional — the strongest such entry in this catalogue — alongside excellent alumni feedback and post-enrolment support, a large hiring firm network and online job fairs. Against IMT, career progression is recorded as good and support as average. Those entries point the opposite way from the salary bands, and they are measuring something different: how the qualification carries over time rather than what the cohort already earned.
Symbiosis awards a master's degree. IMT awards a post graduate diploma, which is the standard form for executive management programmes at AICTE institutes and is widely read as equivalent in hiring.
The statutory position is the same for both: UGC-DEB entitled, AICTE approved, doctoral study open afterwards. So the distinction is about how a specific gatekeeper reads the words on the certificate. Most private employers will not pause on it. A public sector promotion ladder, an overseas evaluation body, or a further course that names a master's degree might.
If any of those is plausibly in your future, ask the question now rather than after enrolling. If none is, this difference should not drive the decision.
The gap here is substantial — Symbiosis charges one flat fee across its whole MBA list, and it is the highest entry price on this site, while IMT sits in the middle of the catalogue. The current figures are in the table on this page.
What the premium buys is the higher NAAC grade, a better NIRF position, a QS placing and an international quality label, faculty drawn from established Pune management campuses, a campus connect component, and the strongest career progression entry we hold. What it does not buy is a different statutory status or, on our evidence, a better-received name among private sector recruiters — both are recorded as excellent there.
Put the difference in rupees on paper against the length of the programme. For a manager whose employer is funding it, the premium may be immaterial. For someone paying from salary, it is a large sum buying a real but bounded advantage.
IMT runs a short classical list: marketing, finance, human resources, operations, business analytics, strategy and general management. Strategy as a named specialisation is uncommon in this catalogue and suits a manager moving towards general leadership.
Symbiosis runs a tighter list than its fee might suggest, and two entries on it are the interesting ones: hospital and healthcare management, and agriculture business management. Alongside the standard marketing, finance, human resources, operations, logistics and supply chain, international business and business analytics streams, those two name sectors that most of this catalogue ignores.
If you work in hospital administration or agribusiness, Symbiosis names your industry and IMT does not, and that is a stronger argument than any ranking. If you want a general management core, IMT delivers it at a fraction of the cost.
Both are recorded as very difficult, which makes this the most demanding pair in this catalogue and worth taking seriously if your working hours are unpredictable. Neither is a programme to drift through, and both assume you arrive with some professional context.
Symbiosis records a campus connect component and examines online with proctoring. IMT records no campus connect at all. If in-person contact is something you would actually use rather than intend to, that is a point for Symbiosis; if you know you would not, it is not a reason to pay the difference.
Neither requires an entrance test, though IMT prefers work experience. Both run January and July intakes. Both list corporate sponsorship categories, and on either programme that is the first conversation to have with your employer — particularly for IMT, whose executive format employers are accustomed to funding.

Because IMT prefers applicants who already hold management roles, and a cohort of practising managers reports practising managers' salaries. The figures describe who enrols at least as much as what the programme adds. Note that our other market entries point the other way: career progression against Symbiosis is recorded as exceptional, the strongest in this catalogue.
